NYCwindshieldRepair.com: Repairs

the processWhen small stones or other debris "ding" the windshield surface, many motorists simply ignore the damage or put off repairing it until it's too late.

Once a ding or star expands, windshield replacement is often the only option. Up to 70% of all damaged windshields could have been repaired, if the repair was performed within several weeks of when the damage occurred.

Repairing allows your vehicle to maintain the factory seal of the original windshield. Keeping the original seal intact helps prevent air and water leaks, as well as ensuring proper deployment of passenger airbags in accidents and rollovers.

The Process
A windshield is made of two parts, glass and "PVB" (polyvinyl butyrate - basically a thin layer of vinyl) and has three layers (glass/ PVB / glass). The outside layer is the most effected on windshield chips. First we clean the damaged area and place our machine on your windshield. We then remove any moisture from the area with our machine on its vacuum cycle. Next we inject a clear high quality resin into the impact point on the break; this fills the void in-between the glass on the first layer and the pvb on the second layer, restoring most of the clarity in the glass. We then cure the area with a UV lamp. We then polish the repaired area. Cosmetically most repairs clear the area up to 80%.

The repair process will restore the structural integrity of the windshield as well as improve the clarity of the damaged area.

Types Of Breaks
star breakThe first type of windshield break is called a Star Break.
A star break is a rock chip with multiple legs extending from the impact point. It looks like a small "x," or sometimes it can appear as just a little sliver. It doesn't really obscure your view, but over time, star breaks can grow into large cracks that will make the entire windshield to have to be replaced. When repaired properly the star break will not spread any farther.

bulls eye breakThe second type of rock chip is called a Bullseye Break.
A bullseye break is a rock chip which looks like a circle. These are very easily repaired and can be fixed with no drilling or vacuum. These types of breaks usually always disappear and hardly ever spread once the repair is completed and cured.

combination breakThe third type of windshield break is a Combination Break
The combination break is a combination of a bullseye and a star break. These are very hard to repair because of the damage to the glass. Glass is usually chewed up and a large chunk of glass is usually missing. With our technique, we can make the appearance of these diminish but they hardly ever go 100% away.

half moon breakThe fourth type of stone chip is called a Half Moon Break.
The half moon break is similar to the bullseye break except it does not make a complete circle. This break is also easily repaired. This break usually disappears and will stop from spreading any further.
